Digi-wasting

I looked at the Surfbirds photo pages today for the first time in a while, and was immediately reminded why I don't often look at them. On the confusingly named 'Britain & Ireland Scarce Birds Rarity Photos Page' were the following not-in-any-sense-scarce-or-rare birds: Common Sandpiper, Ruff, Curlew Sandpiper, Black-tailed Godwit (FOUR photos!), Garganey and Green Sandpiper. OK, Garganey's perhaps marginal, but the rest are quite definitely common birds. The remaining places on the first page were taken by two nice shots of a Balearic Shearwater, and a record shot of a Cory's. Fair enough - both are scarce birds in Britain.

Of course, not everyone clutters up the scarce birds page with piss-common stuff; most people use the Britain & Europe Common Birds Gallery, and there are some excellent photos on it. However, you have to wonder about the guy who put the comment "really, really, really, really good patch find" next to a shot of a Common Sandpiper. Was he just being very, very, very, very sarcastic, or does he desperately need to find a new patch?

Perhaps that guys local patch is his bath tub and one day he was lying in his scum [with his camera]when a common sandpiper flew in thru an open window and proceeded to peck at his dick [mistaking it for a worm]...Now that would be a really, really, really, really, really good local patch find and something that would probably get him very, very, very, very excited!

Nicotene patch? Cabbage patch? We need to know what sort of a patch he watches.

Indeed Mr.Hague, we do need to know, the whole world demands to know what sort of local patch he watches!

I have a theory that he watches his bald patch in a padded room with mirrored ceiling...and that the common sand was feeding round his hairline on morsels of dandruff...of course, I could be wrong...

my local patch (yes it is me who posted the common sand photo) was a manufactured trout fishery but our local council took it over 4 years ago after helping out with a lot of the work we have finaly recieved nature reserve status and this was the first recorded common sand, i know not a special find but if you had seen the state of the lake 4 years ago it wouldnt have even seen a swan!

So now we know - he wasn't being sarcastic at all, it was just a good bird for his local patch. That's me told. And I hope you others who were taking the piss feel suitably chastened as well!

Andy...me chastened? You is got to be joking!

Dear Joe...thanks for letting us know about you're local patch [you obviously doin a good job there]. However, I like my theories better about you're local patch...you sure it ain't a padded room with mirrored ceiling or a bath tub full of scum!?
[I'm guessing you might not reply to this post as you are probably doing something worthwhile]!

Best wishes....Beast

I'm not usually one to worry about what fills these galleries but I have to admit I was pretty shocked to see a Kingfisher on that page!
